Radio Prevention Programme

Nepal - From June 2016- June 2017

BVS LaunchBVS Nepal decides to develop a prevention programme among the nation through the most effective media in this country: the radio.

BVS Nepal is working in partnership with the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB) Nepal. The radio programme will be broadcast for 1 year (once a month) through 272 Community radios, which covers 74 districts.

 The component of the 30 minutes program include presentation of Burn Issue, interviews of experts (doctors, nurses, counselors, lawyers), interaction with the audience...

This project is supported by C.H.A.N.C.E. For Nepal (UK).

On 19th July 2016, the programme was focus on accidental burns amongst children. Some children, parents, Nurse (Ms. Gauri Karki) and Doctor (Dr. RP Chaudhary) of Kanti Children Hospital were interviewed. They share details about the accidents and which prevention methods should be taken to avoid such incidents. Indeed, accidental burn cases are extremely high among children, and the main cause is due to carelessness.

BVS LaunchOn the 27th August 2016, Ms. Pratikchya Giri spoke about her experience while her son was burnt over 65% of his body and the negligence at the hospital. Also, two children, Anjali Tamang and Prasanna Pokhrel share their experience of being burn patients. Ms. Rumi Rajbhandari, BVS Nepal project coordinator explained the burn situation in Nepal and which prevention should be taken to avoid such incidents.

BVS LaunchOn 1st October 2016, the prevention programme focused on the burn accidents occuring during the festival time. Ms. Sunaina Singh Shrestha, BVS Nepal Reintegration Officer explained the different causes of burns and the ways to avoid them. Also, Sekh Phiroj and his father spoke about Sekh`s case and his rehabilitation process. Ms. Minakshi Rana gave some highlights about the importance of having a good support from the family and the community.

On October 29th, the programme was focused on the problems among hospitals to deal and provide adequate treatment to the patients. The intervenants were Dr. Peeyush Dahal, the director of BIR Hospital.

BVS LaunchOn the 16th November, the programme was focus on accidental burns amongst children. Some children, parents, Doctor (Dr. RP Chaudhary) of Kanti Children Hospital were interviewed. As well, Ms. Barbara Datson, founder of C.H.A.N.C.E For Nepal, was interviewed regarding her support throughout the years.

On December 3rd, the programme was focus on the Situation of burns violence and the legal provision for burns violence. The intervenants were Ms. Rumi Rajbhandari, Program Coordinator of BVS Nepal, Ms.Sushma Gautam from Forum for Women Law and Development (FWLD). Also, Ms. Binita Bhattarai from the Ministry of Children, Women and Social Welfare explained about the position of the government regarding cases of acid and burns violence.
